Oh Margaret, I remember this time last year, as it seems like a hands reach away. I was beyond ready to meet you, and counted down the days until December 6th. I wondered what your face would look like, what color your eyes were going to be, how big or small you would be, and if you would know I was your mother the moment the doctor would hand you to me.
I wondered if you would be an extrovert like me at times, but enjoy time at home in the evenings to recharge. I wondered if you would be like your daddy, who is the most selfless person I know. Would you be a fighter like your namesake, Margaret Mimms, who stands for what she believes in and always put Christ first. Would you be funny and often times very witty, like your uncle Adam, or would you love to read like your sweet Lala.
As we near your first birthday, it is no surprise to me that you are a combination of all of the precious souls mentioned above. I know as time continues to pass, and each day we create a memory, your character and personality will continue to take shape.
I would say the most defining personality trait you posses right now is your advantageous smile and contagious delightful temper. (Now don't get me wrong, there are times when you are very defiant and demanding, but majority of the time, you are one happy little lamb.) You also have me intrigued that you may have a humor side to your temperament.
You will laugh out loud if you see Charlie and me laughing. I know you do not understand what we are saying, but you act like you do. You also pretend to be an actor in your high chair for no apparent reason, by leaning back and moving your body like you are dancing. You quickly stop to see if I'm looking, then laugh. I hysterically laugh at you because I want to encourage this silliness. You are loving, and dependent, and boy am I cherishing this time.
Happy 11 months to you. I have forced myself to unwind the next few weekends, so we can enjoy our quiet time with you, and continue to watch you grow.
