Happy Birthday, Ms. Polly

Charlie and I spent a relaxing weekend in Columbia, again. It was lovely. We celebrated Ansel & McKenzie all weekend, starting off with their Rehearsal Dinner at Hall at Senate on Friday evening, and their wedding on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, followed by their reception at Forest Lake Club.

Charlie played golf with a few new guys he met at Spring Valley on Saturday morning, and I enjoyed a morning of working out and working in the yard. Sunday we celebrated Ms. Polly in Bishopville and had a wonderful time!

Kitchen Update # 2

Last night Charlie made the most amazing authentic Italian dish, Bucatini all' Amatriciana, in our new kitchen!!!! Our appliances and new kitchen buffet arrived yesterday afternoon. I think it was the hottest day of the year, and our poor delivery guys were drenched head to toe in sweat. The refrigerator and stove were installed, but we are waiting next week to install the dishwasher and microwave.

It was so nice to be able to cook dinner in our kitchen, and I do not think I have had an Italian dish that tasted so delicious! (Thank you, Chuck)!

Next week we are installing white subway tile with white grout and our new cabinet doors are being delivered on Tuesday. Once we install the recessed lighting, we should be complete! I can't wait to share the final photos in the next two weeks. Below are a few pictures from the delivery yesterday.

Happy Friday!

Kitchen Update

When I got home yesterday after our Board Meeting at work, I literally walked in the door and almost cried. We have been without a kitchen for a few weeks, and at times has been a little stressful for both Charlie and I. I'm a little OCD about things, and this kitchen is my new pride and joy.

This is our first home we have owned together, and every little detail from the grass, to our mature shrubs, exterior brick, hardwood floors, and paint are something I take great pride in. We bought this fixer upper in the Fall of 2012 before we were married, and I literally cannot describe the transformation that has taken place. The kitchen is truly the last upgrade we will probably do, and one that we have been saving for! Charlie loves to cook, so every detail was fully thought through. We have researched numerous designs online, talked with family and friends on their opinions, and ultimately visited every granite and kitchen store in Columbia. Charlie is our General Contractor since he's in construction, so this project is even extra special to him!

So enough about how excited I am, below are picture of the granite, sink and faucet installation. We chose Colonial White Granite, an extra large white Kohler sink, and a faucet designed by Danze- never heard of them, but a friend from Ferguson recommended the brand! I am well pleased!

The Blog Name

So BB, or Barrett Burley, only thought it was fair for me to explain the reason for Dot Mimms. I'm sure most of you who read this know this is not my real name. Far from it, actually. But several years ago, when Charlie and I started dating in 2009 to be exact, he introduced me to his very dear friends Julia and Barrett Burley, also dear friends of mine now. It is such a blessing to have them as close friends and only a few minutes away.

One evening while we were in Murrells Inlet with Julia and BB, and our other dear friends Ejoye and Gill, we were discussing our future children 's names and lord knows why I thought of or at the time, liked the name "Dot" as a nickname for Doloris. Barrett was quick to chuckle, along with everyone else, firmly stating that Dot was a nick name for Dorothy not Doloris. Dot has stuck and that is who I am known as to a select few. And for clarification, our future children will not be named Doloris or Dot.

A weekend in Cola Town

This past weekend was exactly what I needed. Charlie and I were so excited to finally come home on a Friday afternoon to our home in Columbia. Over the last few weeks we have been traveling to visit family and friends, but it was nice to pull in the drive way on Friday afternoon with the intent on staying.

Friday evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Julia & BB's. We always stay to late but the food and conversation are just too hard to leave.

Saturday morning, Charlie and I were up bright and early at Lowe's shopping for a few final items for our kitchen remodel. Tomorrow our granite guy, Craig, is coming to install our new Colonial White Counter Tops, luxurious new white Kohler Sink and our new stainless steel faucet. Wednesday our brand new appliances are being delivered, and on Thursday, we welcome a new kitchen buffet - a perfect piece to conclude the kitchen remodel.

Saturday evening we celebrated the new bride, Claire, at her beautiful wedding at the Robert Mills House and Gardens.

Sunday, Charlie, Matt, Katie, Barrett and I enjoyed a delicious brunch at The Gourmet Shop, followed by a 3 hour nap, by yours truly. The weekend was a hit and a fun one at that.

Summer in Full Swing

The last two weeks have been very eventful for the Mimms household. I traveled to Greenville to celebrate Baby Lainey, I celebrated Julia's 31st Birthday with a delicious dinner at the new hot-spot in town, Bourbon, I had my biggest work event of the year last Thursday - our Annual Meeting, and this past weekend Charlie and I went to visit my family in Mooresville.

Baby Shower for Lainey
The girls and I hosted a Baby Shower for Lauren last week. Baby "Lainey," or Elaine Grace Barber is due September 7th. I can't hardly stand waiting another 3 months to meet this precious angel. While in Greenville Ejoye and I stayed with Ali and sweet Millan Gray. Of course, we had some one on one time with this adorable little lamb. She is so blessed to have such wonderful parents, and I am so blessed to call them my friends.

Julia's Birthday
While I do not have any photos from Julia's 31st Birthday Dinner, it was quite a treat to get together with the girls on a Monday evening. We tried the new hot spot in town, Bourbon, on Main Street, and it has quite the atmosphere. I can't wait to try again with Charlie!

Annual Meeting of our Investors & Board of Directors
I also was so relieved on Friday, June 6th, because it was the day after my biggest work event of the year! Months of planning and implementing finally paid off. I was so humbled and honored by the turn out of all our local supporters. The organization celebrated its 20th Anniversary, as we hosted a program and reception for our investors, counties, Board of Directors, department of commerce and all our allies. It was a huge success, but I'm probably a little biased.

Weekend in Mooresville
Lastly, Charlie and I spent the weekend in Mooresville June 6th-8th. We started a new tradition with the Lyerly Clan, where we celebrate birthday's every two months. Lucky enough, I was able to spend the weekend with my Dad over this actual birthday. I surprised him with a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, his fave, and Mama picked up our favorite take out, Pie in the Sky. We enjoyed dinner overlooking the lake and ended Friday evening with a night boat ride. It was a lovely Friday night. Saturday, Adam, Charlie, Lauren and I, made our way to Aunt KK's by boat to relax and hang with her and Cheryl. I love that they have purchased a lake home or their "retirement home" near my parents. I look forward to making many memories there. We enjoyed a great dinner Saturday night at my parents followed by church on Sunday and relaxing on Kathy's porch that afternoon.

The last two weeks have been fun filled with family and friends, and we are looking forward to a relaxing weekend here in Columbia.

Also, must update about the kitchen - cabinets are installed, sink, faucet and appliances ordered, granite going in later this week!
